UX Bites #14 — Whereby, Copilot & more...

🍪 The most popular UX Bites from the last 2 weeks.

Hey 👋,

I’ve got 5 epic UX Bites for you in this issue.

That’s about 30 seconds of “woah, that’s a sweet idea”, and then you can get back to whatever you were doing.

1. Setting realistic reply expectations

When drafting an email to a contact who shares their 'out of office' hours with Google, you'll see when they're due back.

This helps to set a realistic expectation of when they might reply.

Gmail — Setting expectations

2. Your knock has been heard

While waiting to join a call on Whereby (i.e, you’re in the lobby), you'll see if the host has acknowledged your 'knock', and they can message you in a single click.

This reduces some of the pre-call anxiety that I explained in the recent Zoom vs Teams vs Meets case study.

Whereby — Reducing anxiety

3. Clubhouse’s dynamic skip button

When listening to a pre-recorded Clubhouse talk, the 'next' button dynamically shows the profile picture of whoever is talking next (and who you'd be skipping to).

Clubhouse — Attention and interest

4. Financial demo mode

If you’re hesitant to link your bank account during onboarding, Copilot gives you the option to enter a demo mode with fully-populated data, to get a feel of the app before committing.

i.e., catches people who aren’t ready, and then simulates the benefits in a test environment.

Copilot — Improving conversion rates

5. Hover-over lighting

When hovering over lights and lampshades on Pooky, the image will change to show the light turned on.

This is one of those things that now I’ve seen once, I wonder how many other ‘hover over’ state changes eCommerce sites could show.

Pooky — User delight

Also, in the last two weeks, I’ve added UX Bites from:

i.e., a curated feed of ideas, from all the places you know, and loads that you’d never bother to check.

  • Ahead

  • Arc

  • Bolt

  • One Sec

  • Slack

  • Duolingo

  • Figma

  • Youtube

  • AllTrails

  • Teams

  • Sadapay

  • App in the Air

And more—they’re literally added daily.

👀⚡️

BFM+ members now have access to interactive UX exercises.

It’s a super easy way to test your product psychology knowledge, review design principles and challenge yourself.

Try the one at the end of the Zoom case study.

As always, I love getting your replies. It both boosts the deliverability, and is the #1 way I get feature ideas and case study requests. So keep ‘em coming.
