UX Bites #7 — Arc, Packfleet & more...

The most popular UX Bites from the last 2 weeks.

Hey 👋,

It’s time to get inspired, and mumble “oh that is cool” under your breath.

Here are the 5 most popular UX Bites from the last few weeks. This time, featuring Google, Packfleet and Arc.

1. Upgrading Google Meets

On the Google Meets free plan, you'll get a 15 minute warning that your call will end, and a prompt to start a 14-day trial. This works without leaving or ending the call.

2. Next-gen parcel UX

Packfleet will let the receiver of a parcel order their delivery preferences (instead of just selecting one), including a toggle to not ring the doorbell.

3. Try Arc for a week

After downloading Arc, you'll be asked if you want to set it as your default browser.

But what's smart here, is that they also offer a lower commitment option of "try for one week".

Behind the Bite

Functionally, this appears to be identical to setting Arc as your default browser forever—just with the added reassurance of a reminder.

Objectively, a user would already understand that they can re-set to their previous default browser at any time. But the idea of having to make a second decision (to go back to it) is daunting.

And that’s why it’s so effective; it lowers the commitment required to take an action in the first place.

This is a great UX trick to get people to try new habits.

4. Pricing per meal

HelloFresh will frame the cost of their mealkits 'per serving' in the checkout.

5. Google Maps business data

If you try and navigate to a business that's closed (or will be closed) on Google Maps, you'll see this prompt before you set off.

Was 5 not enough? There are literally hundreds of them here:

That’s all for this week. And thank you for subscribing—there’s now over 25,000 of you. Epic. ✌️
